As a Retail Accountant, your primary role is to process the transactions that support the financial activities of our retail cafes and ecommerce business. Responsibilities include cash management and retail store banking relationships. Additionally, you are responsible for the reconciliation of several general ledger accounts, preparation of journal entries and month end close financial review. Through your work and analysis, you provide the retail and ecommerce teams with important financial information used in making business decisions.

Essential Functions

  • Reconcile and deposit daily cash sales from each café location
  • Perform daily bank activities related to retail
  • Partner with cafés to ensure banking supplies are ordered
  • Enter all café related Accounts Payable
  • Troubleshoot connectivity and data issues between Square (point of sale) and NetSuite
  • Communicate regularly with café management and staff
  • Assist with business licenses and permits for café locations
  • Reconcile ecommerce deposits
  • Review and post miscellaneous bank debits and credits
  • Seek opportunities to support the retail team with reporting and analysis, including monthly P&Ls by café
  • Support Retail leadership in creating monthly targets and forecasts by café
  • Assist in the broader month-end close process as needed

Supervisory responsibilities

  • None


  • Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Minimum 3 years related experience
  • Previous retail and/or cash management experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and significant attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience in NetSuite or Square preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven team player
  • Passion and enthusiasm for coffee

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit continuously at a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally

Work environment

  • Work takes place in an office setting
  • Work hours are a normal 40-hour work-week, although ability to work more than 40 hours necessary during peak times (e.g. month-end close, annual planning, etc.) and occasionally on an ad-hoc basis dependent on business needs
