Flower of Flowers: Ray BarbeeJul 09, 2018
Flower of Flowers, filmed in Antigua, Guatemala, was a project that we’d been hoping to see come together for many years. Focusing the spotlight on the regions that we hold so much respect for - that house not only our producer partners but also the vibrant culture in which they thrive — was a big dream. We didn’t want to send just anyone to capture this experience — we wanted to send friends.
Enter: Ray Barbee, his buddy (and fellow skate legend) Rick McCrank, and mutual friend and artist Lori Damiano. Through their eyes, and with a helping hand from Stumptown Quality Assurance Manager Jim Kelso, we get to explore Antigua. They visit producer partners’ farms, have impromptu jam sessions with the community, and of course, skate wherever they can.
Ray’s a really special dude. Not only is he a pioneer in the skateboarding world, he’s also an extremely talented musician and photographer. While on their trip he captured significant moments and sweet asides using his favorite film camera. These are those moments.
Look out for Ray’s work to be displayed in our downtown Portland cafe from July 12th to July 25th.
Flower of Flowers premieres in Portland on July 9th at Revolution Hall.
All ticket proceeds go to Guatemalan relief efforts.
