The Director of Technical Services is responsible for the coordination of R&D, QA and Process Development, overseeing the successful scale-up of projects to manufacturing, while maintaining a climate of innovation. This person manages product development and resources, maintaining flexibility of the departments and resources for timely response to new opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Direct technical efforts supporting business growth, including formulation development and optimization, new product pipeline management with a realistic understanding of the cost and impact on the organization.

  • Lead research and development of product and process improvements including brewing, waste handling, process flow, pasteurization and packaging.

  • Lead and contribute to innovation, new product development, commercialization, product improvements, cost savings and operational efficiency in a continually fast growing business.

  • Manage Quality Assurance to ensure products comply with specifications and continuously improve quality. Oversee quality audit, testing, reporting and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage Quality Assurance team to implement and maintain Food Quality and Food Safety Programs, HACCP and FDA regulatory compliance including GMPs and 3rd party audit requirements.

  • Develop and manage technical relationships with co-manufacturers, co-packers, and suppliers.

  • Mentor team members and grow their capabilities for contributing to the organization while coordinating and managing the efforts of the Technical Services team.

  • Serve as a technical resource for new products, troubleshooting, product resolution, and continuous improvement working closely with Operations, Customer Service and Sales.

  • Responsible for working in a safe and healthy manner, taking reasonable care of the health and safety of all other staff.

  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or equivalent Scientific Discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience in food product development, laboratory management, quality systems, and/or food process engineering within a food/beverage company.

  • Demonstrated results of commercializing new product launches,

  • Demonstrated experience in product or process improvements with strong technical leadership of projects.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment, strong sensory and organoleptic abilities, and a deep knowledge of food safety, quality, and regulatory environment including FDA, USDA and GFSI is required.

  • Experience functioning in a managerial position and mentoring team members.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Physical Demands

  • Seated with freedom of movement on a regular basis, operating office machines and handling light materials and supplies.

  • Normal exposure to office and manufacturing environment. Occasional exposure to warehouse.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed based on production scheduling needs.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Periodic physical activity requires walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting and stooping.

Work environment

  • Work is performed both at the Cold Brew Brewersew and Office

  • The work environment can be noisy

  • Temperatures can be variable in the work area

  • May spend extended periods operating desktop computer, requiring hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity; and communicating face-to- face, on the telephone and in writing.

  • May spend time working in the R&D and QA lab, on the bench and in the pilot area.
