EARTH University is a four-year agricultural sciences university whose campus is located in the tropical Caribbean lowlands of Costa Rica. Founded in 1990, EARTH offers a world-class scientific and technological education emphasizing ethical entrepreneurship and strong socio-environmental commitment. EARTH prepares students to contribute to sustainable development in their home communities around the world.
EARTH’s 400 students represent 43 countries, the vast majority from the developing world. Fewer than 7% of 1600 applicants every year are accepted. So these young people are the best and the brightest -- and over 85% of them depend on financial aid to attend.
At Stumptown we believe that local people and institutions can be most effective in addressing climate change and its highly localized agricultural, ecological and economic impacts.
So in 2018 we’re contributing $1 of each bag of Bella Vista sold to a scholarship for a Guatemalan student to attend EARTH.
We support EARTH’s mission to develop environmental leadership and entrepreneurship. Our donations contribute to a scholarship established by Guatemalan alumni of EARTH to co-fund a scholarship for a student from Guatemala.
