Follow along step by step and see how it comes together.
1
Prep and preheat
Fill your kettle with filtered water and heat to just off-the-boil. Place an AeroPress filter in the basket, affix the basket to the bottom of the brew chamber, then place the brewer on top of a carafe Rinse with hot water to preheat everything and remove any papery flavor from the filter, then dump rinse water.
2
Weigh and grind coffee
Measure out 17g (about 2 1/2 Tablespoons) of your favorite Stumptown coffee and grind it as fine as table salt.
3
Add coffee
Place the funnel that comes with the AeroPress in the top of the brew chamber and add the coffee. Then, remove the funnel and zero your scale if using.
4
Add water and stir
Start a count-up timer when you add the hot water. Add 220g of water, which will fill to around the top of the No. 4 mark on the brew chamber, completing the pour within 10 seconds. Stir to make sure all of the coffee is saturated.
5
Place plunger and wait
Carefully place the plunger into the top of the brew chamber and pull up slightly to create a pressure seal. Don’t plunge yet!
6
Stir and plunge
At 1:15, remove the plunger and give the slurry another stir. Put the plunger back on and gently press down with steady pressure, stopping as soon as you hear a hissing sound. If you’re using a scale, be sure to move everything to your counter before pressing. This entire brew process should take just under two minutes.
7
Serve and enjoy
Remove the Aeropress from your carafe and serve!
