Summary
The Staff Accountant serves as a core a member of the Accounting & Finance team, supporting the day-to-day accounting function with a broad range of reporting, reconciliation, and analysis responsibilities across the business. Additionally, this position contributes to the business by understanding and supporting the evaluation of internal controls crucial to financial reporting and GAAP compliance. The Staff Accountant plays an important role in month-end and year-end closes and provides support during annual financial audits.
Essential Functions
- Prepares general ledger entries, maintains records, and reconciles accounts
- Supports monthly balance sheet reconciliations and P&L Variance reporting
- Ensures the accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and internal policies
- Maintains leasing schedules for all operating and capital leases; records monthly lease entries
- Communicates effectively with non-finance team members by researching and interpreting financial information
- Develops and implements process improvements, supports policy updates and training under the guidance of the accounting manager
- Completes tasks and projects in a timely manner, balancing multiple demands but continuing to meet critical deadlines and maintaining regular communication
- Works independently with minimal supervision
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 1 year in a staff accountant role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting require
- Multi-channel Consumer Goods industry experience preferred
- ERP experience required; NetSuite experience preferred or more years of accounting experience
- Intermediate to advanced Excel experience required
- Excellent communication skills, ability to partner across teams and locations
- Strong process improvement focus; ability to resolve complex challenges positively and professionally
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing demands
- Excellent attention to detail
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit continuously at a computer
- Ability to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds on occasion
Work Environment
- Work takes place in a remote (work from home) environment as well as in an office setting. The Staff Accountant will be required to work in the office occasionally upon starting and may be expected to work onsite more frequently beginning in 2022
- Ability to work additional hours as necessary during peak times (e.g. month-end close, etc.) and occasionally on an ad-hoc basis dependent on business needs
