Stumptown x Maruhiro: Behind the Mug

To celebrate the opening of our Kyoto cafe, we teamed up with Japanese design legends Maruhiro on this beautiful mug, made by the artisans at their Hasami porcelain brand. Hasami is the name of both the brand and the town where the ceramics are produced; each piece is created by hand, with care, following traditional ceramics technique developed in the Saga Prefecture. Hasami ceramics production is characterized by a specialized division of labour where shaping, molding, glazing, and firing are handled independently. We recently chatted with a representative from Maruhiro to talk all things ceramics and collaboration.

Tusk was named Food & Wine's Restaurant of the Year 2017 and one of Bon Appétit’s 50 Best New Restaurants 2017; it also happens to be one of our favorite places for a lazy weekend brunch or a celebratory dinner out.
